Chow Winkler worked for most of his teen and adult life-at least up until he turned 50-on the ranges and prairies of Texas and New Mexico cooking for real cowboys (not, as he snorts in disgust, "Pretty City Cowpokes who couldn't wrassle a steer if his life depended on it!" and those who "Smell of men's perfumes instead o' nature's aromas!") In that time he developed more than 1,000 recipes often using the meats and other ingredients that were available in the wide open spaces. Once he pulled up stakes and headed to work for Tom Swift out in Shopton, he brought his recipes along, but had to "tame 'em" a little. This book contains 70 of his favorites than run the gamut from chuck wagon ones to ones he makes for banquets to serve international guests. You will find everything from meaty dishes to vegetarian dishes, side dishes to desserts, and drinks to dry rubs.

At the age of 56, Charles "Chow" Winkler has been cooking professionally for 41 years. He currently is the Executive Chef at Swift Enterprises in Shopton, New York (upstate in Exeter County), as well as the primary chef for the executives of the company. Along with his commercial kitchen duties, he accompanies Tom Swift on numerous adventures on the ground, under the oceans and in outer space. He is an exceptionally talented man. He has no spouse or children but has one niece, Belinda who is following in his footsteps as far as cooking and adventure goes. This is his second collection of recipes. T. Edward Fox has been chronicling both the key people of Swift Enterprises as well as the inventions of Both Tom Swift and his father Damon Swift. He has published 8 books of novellas along with 14 novels about Tom Swift. He lives and writes in a house in the wilds of Oregon, but knows the area around Shopton, and its nearby lake, Carlopa, as if he has lived there for decades. Perhaps, in his tiny mind, he has.
