Katherine Ladny Mitchell was born in Washington D.C. and, the daughter of an Air Force Staff Sergeant, grew up in many other places. A lover of musicals, singing, writing, and rhyme, Katherine started playing with words and writing in a journal as a child. She loved creating songs and stories and looked forward to her writing assignments with a delight other students must have found curious. Katherine graduated from Washington Bible College with a Bible Certificate and from Covenant College with a B.A. in Sociology. After years of hoping, praying, and (im)patiently waiting for her prince Charming, Katie finally realized that being part of God's story is far more romantic than pursuing any personal fairy tale. She married Jason Mitchell on December 30th, 2005, and chronicles her romantic journey in "Don't Settle for a Fairy Tale: A True Love Story." Katherine currently makes her cottage-like home in Chattanooga, Tennessee with Jason, their three kids: Elijah, Selah, and Caleb, and puppy, Phantom. Elijah's infantile hiccups inspired the plot for her children's book, "Dr. Hickerup: The Hiccup-Healing Man," illustrated by Chelsea Spring. Katherine's also lackadaisically working on a murder mystery, but does not trace its inspiration to any ill will toward anyone in particular. Katherine is a member of the Chattanooga Writer's Guild and feels grateful for their support and helpful feedback regarding her work. Her "Don't Settle for a Fairy Tale" chapter, "An Enchanted Engagement," won a writing contest in 2008. Katherine published another piece, "Personal Presence," in Gary Chapman's "Love is a Verb Devotional" in October, 2011. "Chicken Soup for the Soul: Married Life" included Katherine's short story, "Our Second First Date," in May, 2012. Katherine has also freelanced locally for Chattanooga's HealthScope and CityScope magazines. When she's not writing, Katherine enjoys singing, gardening, getting together with girlfriends, homeschooling her kids, and drinking PG Tips tea every afternoon at 3:00 pm during their nap time. She also randomly breathes fire and twirls poi (as the opportunity presents itself), and enjoys her modest collection of porcelain tea cups.
