Reviews

This is the third in a series of modestly sized quiz books aimed primarily at the tourist market. Previous titles have focused on Anglesey and Snowdonia and all are illustrated with colour photographs. The questions are in the early pages but appear again together with the answers a little way into the book. This makes it an appealing format for someone like myself who enjoys quizzes as well as enhancing ones knowledge about the chosen Welsh regions. The folklore of Llyn is represented by the tale of a small boy named Guto who met and played with fairy children and this is something, incidentally, which the poet Edward Thomas described in his 1906 book Beautiful Wales. I had not realised that Pwllheli born Ebenezer Roberts popularised the musical tonic sol-fa which was taken up throughout Wales in a big way. I can envisage this title, along with Margaret Hughess previous books selling well to visitors to north Wales and Gwasg Garreg Gwalch are to be commended on the sterling work they are doing. Dewi Roberts It is possible to use this review for promotional purposes, but the following acknowledgment should be included: A review from www.gwales.com, with the permission of the Welsh Books Council.
