A celebration of women and public speaking - from great political leaders and stand-up comedians, to campaigners and feminists, this is a powerful book about what happens when women find their voice.

INCLUDES A NEW INTRODUCTION AND A BONUS CHAPTER ON 'HOW TO OWN THE ZOOM'

'Full of helpful concepts... I'm finding it very useful.' Philippa Perry
'Plenty of tips and tricks.' Sunday Times

Most books about public speaking don't tell you what to do when you open your mouth and nothing comes out. And they don't tell you how to get over the anxiety about performance that most people naturally have. They don't tell you what to do in the moments when you are made, as a woman, to feel small. They don't tell you how to own the room. This book does. From the way Michelle Obama projects 'happy high status', and the power of J.K. Rowling's understated speaking style, to Virginia Woolf's leisurely pacing and Oprah Winfrey's mastery of inner conviction, what is it that our heroines do to make us sit up and listen - really listen - to their every word? And how can you achieve that impact in your own life? Here's how.

About the Author

Viv Groskop is an award-winning writer, stand-up comedian, playwright and TV and radio presenter. She is the host of the podcast How Own the Room, with over 2 million downloads and guests including Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, Margaret Atwood, Professor Mary Beard, Nigella Lawson and very occasionally a man like Brian Cox (Succession's Logan Roy).

Her previous books include How to Own the Room- Women and the Art of Brilliant Speaking and Lift As You Climb- Women, Ambition and How to Change the Story. As a performance coach, she works with women and senior teams in business and media, helping them to redefine leadership and authority - and generally worry less about how they come across so they can actually just do their work.

If you wish you were a bit more confident when it comes to standing up in front of lots of people, then Viv Groskop has written a genuinely excellent guide to public speaking. It’s got a whole chapter on what we can learn from Oprah. How can you NOT need that in your life?
*Ellie Taylor*

I immediately wanted to give this book to all my female friends.
*Kirsty Logan, author of The Gracekeepers*

Addresses how to overcome the natural performance anxiety many people suffer and how as a woman you can find your voice on a big stage. Championing female speakers from Michelle Obama to JK Rowling, to Hillary Clinton and Oprah, this book aims to help women tap into the kind of inner conviction that makes people sit up and take notice.
