Hmm, I'm a hugh fan of Philip K Dick and have enjoyed many of his novels and short stories in the past but I really struggled with "Man In The High Castle". Stylistically, this book hits all of the buttons I've come to expect from Dick but there's not enough of interest happening here in the plot to make this one a timeless classic for me. Check it out if you're a Dick fan but if you're new to his works check out something like "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?", "A Scanner Darkly" or "Time Out Of Joint" instead.

Amazing. Dick's insane pessimism and avant-garde thinking have had his work jostled into the background and branded as a cult, or far worse as pulpy sass. This text really shows his mind. Written much earlier than the more SF of his oeuvre (Do androids dream..., Three stigmata..., et al), this is prouced in a much more dystopian vein. I thought it was incredible. Read it and weep.

If you're familiar with Dick's other sci-fi offerings, this book may be somewhat of a surprise. Winner of the prestigious Hugo award, this alternate history novel is still worthwhile compared to his usual writings. What if the allies lost World War Two? What kind of world would we live in? Philip K Dick makes those possibilities worth reading about. A great modern classic!
