Sonia Jackson is Professor of Social Studies and Education at the Institute of Education, University of London, UK. She has previously worked as a clinical psychologist, teacher and social worker. Elinor Goldschmied was one of the pioneers of early childhood care and education and her work has continued to exert a profound influence on theory and practice right up to the present day. The three most important new ideas that she introduced into early years practice were the treasure basket, heuristic play and the key person system.
