In turning the story of the famed Paris nightclub the Moulin Rouge into a modern day fable celebrating love and creative inspiration, Baz Luhrman creates an accompanying soundtrack that exalts 20th century pop composers at the same time as it's blurring their musical boundaries. It's an approach best exemplified by dramatic leads Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor during the gorgeous "Elephant Love Melody," an endearing call-and-response during which lines from songs by the Beatles, Kiss, U2, Wings, and Thelma Houston are tossed back and forth as the duo argue over their burgeoning emotional involvement.
Elsewhere, Kidman quotes Madonna ("Material Girl") and Marilyn Monroe ("Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend") amidst brassy, Vegas-like arrangements and dance beats. McGregor also pulls off a gorgeous version of Elton John's "Your Song," complete with sweeping orchestration, Placido Domingo's swooping tenor, and a powerful children's chorus. Among the most interesting collaborations here are between David Bowie and Massive Attack, who perform a chilled-out trip-hop cover of the standard "Nature Boy," and the Missy Elliott-produced superstar summit of Labelle's "Lady Marmalade," featuring Lil' Kim, Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Mya. Beck and Timbaland also team up for a blipping, bleeping minimalist take on Bowie's "Diamond Dogs

Watched the movie so we had to have the sound track. The sound track is just as good as the movie and great music. Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor both have excellent voices and the other songs are good to get up and dance too.

this soundtrack was excellent, and i would rather listen to the soundtrack than watch the movie, so it must be great. the songs are wonderfull, and sung excellently. i loved all the songs, especially 'come what may' and 'your song'. though most of the songs are covers, they are marvellous, and i would definitely reccommend buying the soundtrack!!

A soundtrack worth having, even if a good number of these songs are remakes. My favourite though, is the Elephant Love Medley which combines a number of stock love songs to create a new dialogue almost, which fits the scene the characters were in. Of course, the signature "Come What May" is another must listen, as is "Lady Marmalade" by Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya and Lil Kim.

A wonderful soundtrack exactly as presented in the film i found myself listening to the tracks and trying to dance around the lounge room. I was disappointed that the CD however did not contain Spectacular Spectacular but wore Track 13, the tango almost to death. A great soundtrack for everyone to sing along to!
